Chinese organisations, Chinese education and Chinese press are the primary pillars of support in the Chinese community here in Singapore; they play an integral role in passing down Chinese cultural traditions and unifying the Chinese community.

Along with the development of the society, the local Chinese community faces the challenge of change. Since the phasing out of Chinese-medium schools in the 1970s - 1980s, the responsibility of passing down Chinese cultural traditions and unifying the Chinese community now falls on the Chinese organisations and Chinese press.

The "Transcending the Century: The Chinese Community, its Organisations and the Press" talk is jointly organised by Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA) and Chinese Heritage Centre. Chaired by the Chairman of the SFCCA Research Committee Mr Kua Bak Lim, the talk will feature three guest speakers - Professor Liu Hong from Nanyang Technological University, SFCCA President Mr Tan Aik Hock, former Lianhe Zaobao editor Mr Lin Ren Jun. They will be sharing with participants the development of and roles played by the Chinese community, its organisations and the press in the previous and current centuries.
